BLE, background tasks, and Flutter — engineering notes from building Hoomanely's iOS app.
Mobile apps now depend on real-time camera pipelines more than ever. Whether you're scanning QR codes, running on-device AI, analyzing food labels, previewing AR overlays, or streaming video, smooth, uninterrupted camera frames are critical. Here's the catch: mobile devices are unpredictable. CPU spikes, GPU contention, thermal
When a backend is young, everything feels fast: one service, a few routes, everyone knows where things live. A year later, the same service is handling alerts, audits, preferences, billing hooks, experiment flags, and "just one more feature" after every sprint. Regression risk climbs, onboarding slows, and even
No matter how polished your app's UI is, a single crash can shatter user trust instantly. Users don't file bug reports, they uninstall. That's where Firebase Crashlytics comes in. It's more than a crash reporter, it's a real-time, intelligent insight
Your sensors never sleep. An IMU chirps at 100-200Hz, a load cell hums at 10-100Hz, a microphone races at kilohertz. The instant you do real work, FIR/IIR filtering, debouncing, feature extraction, on the main isolate, your once-silky Flutter UI starts to stutter. The jank isn't a bug
Cross-platform apps move fast, until native features start leaking into product code. BLE streaming, notifications, file access, analytics, all must behave consistently across iOS and Android without tangling UI logic with platform quirks or slowing tests to a crawl. Our current setup uses direct native bridges from a view-model into
Bluetooth Low Energy links don't fail in the lab, they fail in the real world. Phones roam between rooms, radios get noisy, apps get backgrounded, and peripherals reboot at the worst possible moment. After shipping connected devices at scale, the lesson is that reliability isn't about
