Every admin console starts with the same page: a list of all users. A table, a search box, maybe a filter for "signed up this week." In most stacks it's a one-line query and an afternoon of work. When we sat down to build that page
Every product company ends up with two applications. One is the product customers see. The other is the internal console where operations, support and ML teams calibrate devices, review flagged content, inspect a customer's setup and approve batch jobs. The first gets the design reviews. The second gets
A daily recap job that ran every night, never threw an error, and almost never wrote anything. The cause was a query flag that promised "newest first" and delivered something else. One of our features writes a short daily recap for each pet, built from that day'
INTRO Every team has an architecture document. Very few teams have an architecture. The gap between the two is where most mobile codebases quietly rot. Someone writes "features must not import each other." Six months and four contractors later, half the modules import each other, and the document
Amazon OpenSearch Serverless (AOSS) presents the OpenSearch REST API. You point the standard client at it, sign your requests, and everything you already know appears to apply. That appearance is the whole problem. It is not a managed OpenSearch cluster, it is a different product that accepts a subset of
A notification system that only asks "should this be sent?" will eventually send everything, correctly, all at once and the person holding the phone will switch it off. This post is about the opposite failure, and it's the one users actually complain about: everything arrived, every
Structured outputs (constrained decoding) guarantee that an LLM’s response is valid against your JSON Schema. They do not guarantee that the response is correct, because providers implement only the subset of JSON Schema that compiles to a grammar: no string length limits, no numeric bounds, no minItems above 1
Our pet-health assistant streams its answers token by token. Under load, something odd showed up: response times for completely unrelated endpoints climbed in lockstep with how many people were mid-conversation. History reads, a settings fetch, a suggestion request. CPU sat close to idle. Nothing was throttled, nothing was retrying, no
The device is on the table. Its LED is breathing. Your phone's system Bluetooth settings can see it. Your app scans, and finds nothing. This is the single most common way a Bluetooth Low Energy integration fails, and it is almost never a bug in your code. It&
A pipeline written as a script is a promise that nothing will go wrong. Modeling it as a directed acyclic graph is what you do after something does. Every multi-step pipeline starts as a function. Fetch the data, clean it, score it, summarize it, store the result, notify someone. Six
